Hawke’s Bay has more vineyards than any other wine producing region in New Zealand except Marlborough, and a history in winegrowing that dates back to 1851. Our Chardonnay comes from vineyards that are characterised by moderate temperatures and free draining soils, perfect for producing great quality fruit with distinctive pineapple and citrus flavours.

The fruit was picked and gently pressed to give fine fresh juices with a soft texture. We kept each batch separate and fermented them with a range of vessels, temperatures and yeast strains to create complexity of aroma and mouth-feel. After aging on full yeast lees with regular stirring, the batches were blended and prepared for bottling.

REVIEW Chardonnay 2016, Raymond Chan

Bright, pale golden-yellow colour, lighter on the edge.  This has a slender, but taut and concentrated nose with moderate intensity, showing citrus and yellow stonefruits, along with subtle hints of nuts, spicy and toasty oak and some lemon-curd MLF elements.  The aromatics are fresh and bright.  Medium-full bodied, this has an elegantly packed palate with flavours of citrus and white stonefruits along with nutty and spicy oak and some lemon-curd MLF detail.  The palate has good flavour balance and flows with good underlying acid energy leading to a light, lingering finish.  This is an elegant Chardonnay with citrus and stonefruit flavours with some oak notes on a fine-textured palate.  Match with seafood, pork and poultry over the next 3 years.

REVIEW Chardonnay 2016, Sam Kim

It is gently expressed on the nose showing white stone fruit, lemon peel and rockmelon characters. The palate delivers succulent mouthfeel and pristine fruit flavours, nicely backed by creamy texture and well-pitched acidity, finishing long and smooth. An appealing fruit-expressive chardonnay. At its best: now to 2019.
